If you’ve been researching auto body shops you may come across shops advertising I-CAR Gold Class Certification. If you are not in the auto body industry you may not know what that means. This blog is designed to help clarify what it is and why you should even care. I-CAR stands for the Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair. I-CAR is an international, not-for-profit training organization dedicated to improving the quality, safety, and efficiency of auto collision repair for the ultimate benefit of consumers. I-CAR has strong representation from several industries including auto body shops, auto insurance companies, car manufacturers, tool/equipment/material suppliers, and related industry services including independent appraisers, technical publishers, and recyclers. All of these industry’s collaborate together in order to fulfill the I-CAR vision that every person in the collision repair industry has the information, knowledge, and skills required to perform complete, safe, and quality repairs for the ultimate benefit of the consumer. With that being said, less than 10% of auto body shops achieve I-CAR Gold Class status. These Gold Class shops have made the investment in training because they have a culture of making sure the cars they repair are done correctly. Since car manufacturers are constantly upgrading cars with new technology it is now more important than ever that auto body technicians receive continuing education.
